To Korea, With Love

Today I went to the post office and sent a "few" boxes on their way across the ocean to my amazing husband.  The lady at the counter was extremely helpful and friendly, but the people behind me in line were understandably annoyed.  If you didn't already know, letters and packages mailed to an APO address via the US Postal Service cost the same as mailing them to a domestic address.  In fact, if you use a large Flat Rate box, it's actually a couple dollars cheaper.  Thank you, USPS, for supporting our troops :)

Sunday Morning Coffee.. or Tea

This was an appropriate place to have a coffee on a Sunday morning after church!  Actually, here in Seattle I've gotten hooked on green tea lattes - especially the ones made with Matcha green tea which apparently is significantly higher in antioxidents than regularly steeped green tea.  Anything to help the fight against aging :)

This evening I had my first conveyor belt sushi experience.  In the sushi restaurant, small plates of food rotate through the restaurant past every table. You simply pick what you want to eat as it goes by!  Your final bill is based on the number and type of plates you've chosen.  It was a very cool experience but tempting to eat too much with all that food continually moving past.

A Dog Park Full of Rats

Full of Rat Terriers of course!  Today we went to a dog park here in Seattle for a scheduled playdate with other Rat Terrier owners.  There were 10 Ratties in all and it was such a fun sight to see!  The dogs had great time playing, chasing, and tumbling around with each other.  Dulce seemed to love having so many other dogs her size to play with :)

We Have an Apartment!

Video chatting with Johnnie, who currently in Korea, is amazing!  We are half a world apart but so connected by technology that it doesn't feel that far.  He arrived there on Tuesday and has been busy getting established.  The good news is that he found us an apartment already!  He moves in next week so we might have some pictures to share then.  The apartment is in a secure, relatively new complex.  It's a spacious 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom place with balconies that overlook a playground that is inside the complex.  Having four bedrooms is a huge bonus!  We have a lot of family and friends who said they'll come visit so I'm glad we have the room to comfortably accomodate them.  Some other things about this place that I will definately appreciate is a fitness center and an underground parking garage.  I am so excited to get there!

Random Totem Pole

One great thing about being in a large city is the convenience of everything.  There are many parks, stores, and cafes within walking distance which is a bonus for me being without a car.  Today Dulce and I walked to Petco which is only a 1/2 mile away.  That store is a thrill for her since she's allowed to go inside.  I like to think that it makes up for me tying her up outside while I went into Walgreens :)  Although when I do leave her outside somewhere, she sits and waits quietly and is friendly to people who pet her.  She also very good at waiting patiently for me to take photographs of her.  We passed this random totem pole on our walk today... um, must be a northwestern thing.

A New Year, A New Chapter in Our Life

This is the first blog posting of Johnnie and Angela!  This blog will be an attempt to keep family and friends informed of our life's adventures from wherever we are in the world.  My goal is to post often, letting everyone see what we see and keep up to date about where we are and what we're doing.

This year, 2011, is an exciting new chapter in our lives.  We are an Air Force family and for the past three years, we were stationed in southern Georgia.  We recently packed and shipped our belongings, rented out our house, ...

drove 3,500 miles across 10 states, ...

and arrived in Seattle, WA on Christmas day.  We celebrated the holidays with Johnnie's family, visited friends, and kicked off the New Year by running a 5K race together!

Earlier this week, Johnnie boarded a plane and flew across the Pacific to our next assignment... South Korea!  Our dog, Dulce, and I will be joining him at the beginning of February.  Until then, I'll be spending more time here in Seattle and then traveling to Tucson to visit good friends as they await the birth of their first child.

Happy New Year everyone!
